Today in the ECON Committee, the role of crypto assets in relation to financial market stability was discussed. The European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) were present.
I raised a critical question about the digital euro.
administration has abandoned the idea of a digital dollar and is instead promoting decentralized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Cardano.
I asked whether the introduction of the digital euro could lead to greater overall acceptance of digital currencies — and therefore also of cryptocurrencies.
The answer?
There wasn’t one — at least not from ESMA. Instead, the ECB representative had to step in.
That’s why we need clear positions, not evasive strategies. When it comes to the future of our monetary system, transparency is absolutely essential.
What do you think about the digital euro?
